About Layton Tamberlin

Early Career

Layton Tamberlin is an experienced financial investor whose varied investments have included business services, healthcare and financial companies.  A UK native, he was born in the West Midlands in 1976 and studied for his master's degree in maths and philosophy at Keble College, Oxford University. He gained valuable experience in the world of finance at his first position, which was at Merrill Lynch UK. The investment bank hired him to work in corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions where he was able to continue learninghis keen financial skills as well as contributing significantly to key Merrill Lynch deals.   He was involved in the initial public stock offerings for such firms as iTouch, PHS Group and Generics Group. During his four-year tenure at Merrill Lynch he also took part in the acquisition of Rockware Group and Newsquest.

Investment Experience Layton Tamberlin left his position at Merrill Lynch in 2002 to work for TDR Capital, a newly established private equity firm. With Manjit Dale and Stephen Robertson as the founding partners, the firm retained the solid financial support of the Tudor Group, in order to compete in the private equity market of Western Europe. By seeking out European companies with potential for growth or structuring improvements, TDR Capital would take control of the companies, for periods of 3 – 5 years. Layton Tamberlin was a key player in all major transactions of the company, including Pearl, Algeco, PizzaExpress, Williams Scotsman and ASK and realized an IRR of over 70% on investments made during his tenure.

Current Business

Following a motoring incident which resulted in conviction, Mr. Tamberlin left TDR Capital. In his new job he joined the established private healthcare company Samedaydoctor, as its Chairman. The clinic offers its General Practitioner services without an appointment to walk-in clients. Medical services offered include treatment for sexual health, minor ailments, vaccinations and professional consultations. The popular healthcare establishments spread throughout the UK and now numbers eight clinics, which are either owned or managed by Samedaydoctor.

Earlier this year Layton Tamberlin established a new investment firm, Sullivan Street Partners alongside Richard Sanders, the previous Group Strategy Director at the John Lewis Partnership. Mr Sanders has extensive post-investment improvement experience having managed operational restructurings for over 50 companies. Through Sullivan Street Partners, they look to invest up to £15 million to take controlling stakes in established companies with growth potential. With their combined professional know-how, they provide strategic and financial structuring advice to increase the company’s value and generate investment returns.
